This Silver Bullet Is The World’s Fastest New-Gen Dodge Charger

The modern incarnation of the Dodge Charger looks much different from its muscle car-era predecessor, but it still shares the same high-performance DNA. These new generation muscle cars can still be purchased with a modern HEMI engine, so that means there are plenty of ways to make them fast.

A.J. Berge owns the world’s fastest Dodge Charger, and the coolest thing about his car is just how plain-jane it looks. The 2006 Charger R/T Plus was originally purchased by Berge in 2009, and was pressed into service as a shop car at Arrington Performance. Berge won a lot of races and a pair of world championships behind the wheel of the Charger before he sold it. The new owner won a championship with it, as well, before he decided it was time to move on to a new project. Berge reacquired the Charger and decided to completely change it into a record-setting machine.

The car is powered by a billet 426 cubic-inch Gen III HEMI from Berge’s company Hemituner Performance. Exhaust gases are removed from the engine via a custom set of headers from American Racing Headers. Whipple Superchargers provided Berge with the same supercharger that’s used on the Dodge Drag Pak Challengers. Berge estimates the blower is making around 22-pounds of boost and that helps the engine make almost 1,400 horsepower. A TH400 from Proformance Racing Transmissions and a ProTorque torque converter transfer power through a Driveshaft Shop carbon-fiber driveshaft to the billet Hemituner Performance differential. The engine is controlled by a Holley EFI system and is tuned by Berge.

The Charger has run a 7.67 at 179 MPH in the 1/4-mile weighing in at a hefty 4,115 pounds, with a hit of nitrous flowing into the engine. That is absolutely flying for a car of this size that still maintains all of the stock body panels and chassis. Berge has gone 8.129 at 171.47 on just boost, setting the record for the Heavyweight class at a Street Car Takeover event. Check out this footage from 1320video that shows just how fast this Charger really is.
