After a devastating crash more than a year ago, Australian-based PAC Performance, a full service sport compact speed shop, unveiled the newest flagship racing machine to their arsenal in June. The new Mazda 6 SP sports a fresh new black and yellow color scheme and will serve as the team’s effort to claim sport compact world records.
After the crash “the team is ready for a fresh start” says team principal Rocky Rehayem.
The PAC Performance Mazda 6 SP was built by Rick Jones Race Cars in the United States and features a 20B-3 Rotor powerplant with a Garrett GT55 turbocharger, with a Halitech Platinum Sport 2000 engine management system and EBoost 2 boost controller, producing in the neighborhood of 1,600 horsepower. The spec sheet includes a Liberty Equalizer 5-speed clutchless transmission with an Ace triple-plate clutch, a 9-inch housing/differential, Lamb carbon fiber brakes, Pense shocks, and Weld Racing wheels.
In addition to a long list of sponsors on the new PAC Performance machine, our friends at Turbosmart serve as one of the team’s primary backers and supporters, with their Race Port blow off valve, Pro Gate 60 wastegates, and 20B centerplate utilized on the car.
Despite the chassis being constructed in the United States, the vast majority of the car, including the drivetrain, was carried out by the PAC team. “We are so proud of the fact that all ingenuity and R&D is done right here in Australia.”
The PAC Performance Mazda, with George Rehayem at the controls, competes in the Factory Xtreme category, which is open to post-2000 full chassis race cars powered by 4-cylinder, 6-cylinder, two-rotor, or three-rotor engines.
PAC Performance previously held the world record for rotary-powered vehicles at 6.58-seconds at 208 mph. One of the team’s primary missions? They want their record back.
