Import drag racing has made big strides over the past decade, as inn tried and true hot rod fashion, there’s a group of racers out there that see potential in an import, and boy, do they know how to make these cars move.
In this video from Drag Import Media, we get to see three different examples of some incredibly quick imports. What makes these even more bad ass is they are from Australia, where when it comes to racing, they turn things up to the max!
The first car featured on the video is a Nissan Skyline piloted by Reese McGregor. Currently this car is the quickest four-wheel drive Skyline in the world, running an impressive 7.56 in the 1/4 mile. The car is powered by a RB26 motor, a big turbocharger, and can get out of shape real quick due to the volumes of power it puts down. This car sounds straight nasty at launch and the video really shows this.
The next vehicle shown on the video is the Jett Racing Datsun 1200. Instead of doing a V8 swap into the lightweight truck, Rob Novak and his team put in a boosted Mitsubishi 4G63 engine. The 4G63 was originally in cars like the Eclipse, Lancer Evolution, Eagle Talon, and Plymouth Laser. Novak’s wild little ride laid down an impressive 7.35 at 187 mph before the transmission decided it had enough for the day.
Finally, we get to see a three-rotor 20BT RX7 go down the track. Rotary-powered cars are seen often on road courses, but can be built for drag racing pretty easily. This particular backhalf, big tire car ran a 7.99 at 171 mph in this test session.
