Mopar Handling Upgrades With QA1 Suspension Components

With Pro-Touring taking the American musclecar scene by storm, the Mopar crowd has been patiently sitting on the sidelines wondering when they were going to be included in upgrading a classic Mopar. They haven’t been quiet, but they have been patient.

QA1 is one of those companies that has heard the call, and now you can find a few upgrades on the QA1 web site to make your Mopar handle better, and to shave some weight in the process. Their tubular upper and lower controls arms have been listed on their site for some time now, and if you do a little more digging you’ll find a few more items to upgrade or modify your existing suspension.

QA1's dynamic strut rods are adjustable to keep the lower control arm where it's supposed to be.

One area that seems to be a weak point on the classic torsion bar suspension is the factory front strut rod. The factory part utilizes rubber bushings as a pivot point in conjunction with the lower control arm. While this setup might be sufficient for a sway bar bushing, it’s not the best method for a suspension pivot point. QA1 addresses this dilemma with their dynamic strut rods specifically for the early Mopars.

The dynamic strut rods are anodized for protection, and made from 6061-T6 aluminum for strength. They replace the bushings on the factory strut rod with a fixed mount and a pivot that removes the need for a bushing. The dynamic strut rods are adjustable, allowing you to get the lower control arm back to where it’s supposed to be: perpendicular to the body. This helps to eliminate any binding in lower control arm movement. The dynamic strut rods a direct replacement for use with factory or aftermarket K-members.

To complement the dynamic strut rods, QA1’s new tubular upper and lower control arms are lightweight and stronger than the factory control arms. Typically, one would have to remove their factory control arms and have them reinforced for strength, but that only adds weight to the arms. The QA1 control arms take care of that problem, their tubular arms are built for strength and durability, and save weight over the factory units.

Tubular upper and lower control arms from QA1 are stronger and lighter than factory units, and the upper control arms are designed with 3 degrees of caster for better handling.

The control arms include polyurethane pivot bushings, and the upper arm includes the upper ball joint. The upper control arms also increase caster by about three degrees, allowing you to fine-tune your suspension the proper way, as the strut rods should not be used to adjust caster. Without adding any weight, these control arms are twice as strong as the factory control arms, while still utilizing the stock shock mount and factory sway bar attachment points.

A lightweight tubular K-member to replace the factory unit works with your existing steering box, engine mounts and control arms, and also accepts QA1 suspension components as well.

For making adjustments to the upper control arms, QA1 also offers replacement eccentric camber bolt kits that allow you to make camber adjustments from -2.5 to +2.5, and they work with both the factory control arms or QA1’s tubular control arms. Included in their arsenal of Mopar adjustment bolts are their torsion bar adjusters that work with both the factory or QA1 lower control arms.  Both the torsion bar adjusters and the eccentric bolts are made from high strength alloy steel and zinc plated for protection.

And to round out the front suspension, we also found a very cool tubular K-member on the QA1 site for A, B and E body Mopars that should be available later this year. This tubular K-member is a direct replacement for the factory K-member, and not only will it cut some weight but it allows for more header clearance and also accepts factory or aftermarket engine mounts. If you’ve had to install headers on a Mopar, you know real estate is limited, so anytime you can open up some room it’s a welcome addition to the engine bay.

While there are some prices listed for some of the parts, many of the other parts will be available soon, so keep checking back. Are there more plans on the table for QA1 and classic Mopars? We can’t reveal anything just yet, but we have reason to believe this isn’t the last we’ve heard from QA1 when it comes to Mopar! QA1 is known for their extensive R&D and their quality, and that attention to detail wasn’t spared when it came time to include Mopar in the ranks of suspension upgrades. Keep checking back at QA1.net for more information!
