Multi-time NMRA/NMCA/X275 Drag Radial champion racer Jason Lee has been vocal about his wishes to step up over the last couple of seasons. As one-half of Part Time Performance with partner Patrick Barnhill, Lee’s been able to get his hands into some of the quickest and fastest cars in the world, and this weekend he’ll be driving one of them at the NMCA‘s season-opening event at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Lee is a big ProCharger fan, having won all of his championships using their supercharged power, but a chance to get behind the wheel of a twin-turbo machine proved to be a call he couldn’t resist.Â
Marty Robertson offered up the opportunity for Lee to wheel his newly-rebuilt RJ Race Cars/Wolfe Racecraft 2004 Cavalier in the NMCA’s Pro Street class, and the team is looking for low six-second ET’s — a huge step up from the mid-seven-second ’86 Mustang Lee’s been piloting for the last few years. The car is powered by one of Hans Feustel’s 499-cube twin turbocharged mills featuring a pair of 88mm Precision Turbo snails, and uses the familiar BigStuff3 engine management system Lee is so proficient at tuning. He and partner Barnhill, along with crewmembers Tommy O’Donnell and Jeremy Evans, are already on-site in Bradenton and looking to make some nice hits in the car this weekend.
Since the car is newly put together, they aren’t expecting to set the world on fire; rather, to get in quality shakedown passes in anticipation of the rest of the season. The team is also planning on competing at select ADRL events during the season as time and competitive performances allow.
