The global drag racing scene has a huge variety of participants that love to go fast any way they can. Whether it’s a domestic-based V8 or a rotary with less than half the cubic inches, turbochargers or nitrous oxide, there’s never a shortage of individuals pushing a combination to the edge. Puerto Rico’s Team New Generation brought their Toyota 2JZ-powered Lexus to the 2014 World Cup Finals in Maryland over the weekend and did just that, as they proceeded to smash the U.S. import record and missed becoming the world’s quickest import by just a few thousandths of a second.

The title of quickest import in the world has changed hands and countries several times of late. Rob Harvey took the title earlier this year with his 6.12 at 238 mph blast in Australia. At the beginning of October, EKanoo Racing then took the title back with a 6.054 at 240 mph pass in their Titan-built Outlaw Toyota Supra, also sporting 2JZ power.

The quickest import record nearly made its third stop this year, when the Team New Generation 2015 Lexus, built by Rick Jones Race Cars, had its wick turned all the way up. Victor Flores piloted the Titan Motorsports built 2JZ GTE-powered car to a 3.97 elapsed time in the 1/8^th mile and a 6.059 at 235 out the back door, missing the world record by just five thousandths of a second! As you can see from TheRacingVids footage, this import was loaded for bear as it moved all over down the track and ripped off a nice power wheelie down track.
