MDIR Shatters Records At Door Wars With Decker And Rhodes

Mike Decker Jr. and Ron Rhodes rolled into Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, Maryland over the weekend for the 7th Annual Door Wars spectacular with one thing on their mind — winning the event. Both drivers did more than that, though, setting new personal bests along with new records for their respective classes.

The Decker family unloaded the Decker’s Salvage blown 2002 Camaro and laid down consistent passes all through testing and qualifying. As night fell, the conditions improved and Decker decided to turn the screws just a touch more and just like that, a 3.98-second elapsed time lit up on the scoreboards at over 193 miles per hour! Mike and his team not only blasted the new Outlaw 10.5 record into the books, they also took No. 1 qualifier honors and marched through eliminations to an event victory over Dale Collins, Jr. in the final round of eliminations. Be sure to check out the video of the epic pass below from TheRacingVids!

IMG_2667-e1397751871433-640x395Ron Rhodes has been a dominant force so far in 2015 with numerous late-round finishes in South Georgia and Memphis, along with blasting off monumental testing numbers while preparing for all the major events. Rhodes kicked off the weekend with solid hits during the MDIR test session but not showing his hand, just yet. As qualifying wrapped up, Rhodes stole the No. 1 spot from X275 juggernaut, Rich Bruder, by two thousandths of a second with the quickest elapsed time for a small block nitrous combination in X275 to date — 4.477-seconds at over 155 miles per hour.

As eliminations began, Ron went into race mode with runs of 4.54, 4.53, and 4.53 to secure his spot in the finals. The Rhodes Custom Auto team went back to the 4.4x range in the finals against Dean Marinis to secure the event championship with a 4.495 at almost 156 miles per hour.

Congratulations to the Decker family, the Rhodes family, Jason Miller and the Maryland International Raceway staff for their incredible work on the track preparation to take home both the Outlaw 10.5 class record and the X275 SB-Nitrous record.
