For drag racers all across the country, adding more power and making your car quicker at the strip is usually the number one priority. Then it’s all about reducing weight, focusing on achieving a perfect and consistent launch, stemming from a perfect burnout. 

But more often than not, drag racers tend to overlook their braking systems, and that can be a serious issue in terms of safety, which is something no one can afford to overlook! So while we were at the 2012 SEMA show, we made it a point to swing by the Stainless Steel Brake Corporation (SSBC).

There, we talked to Bill Cummings Sales Manager of SSBC, about their latest offerings designed for the drag racing set, and he was more than happy to fill us in on the details. SSBC is synonymous in high performance braking systems for cars of all types, but they are now sinking their teeth into the massive drag racing market.

We asked Bill what makes their drag brakes so unique, and he told us, “The SSBC drag racing brake kits utilize a similar size caliper to an OEM unit, but we use larger pistons and pads.” The reason behind SSBC not going with a larger caliper is so that the enthusiast can still run a 14  or 15-inch wheel on their drag car while increasing their stopping power over stock.
