SEMA 2016: Garrett’s New Machine Finish & Reverse Rotation Turbos

We know if you’re shopping with Garrett, you are someone who wants more power… but what if you are someone that wants more power and a nice-looking engine bay? Well, you’re in luck, as some of Garrett’s three major product announcements at this years’ SEMA Show can make that engine bay of yours look extra spiffy – all while giving you that power we know you long for.

To start with, all of Garrett’s GTX-series turbochargers have been upgraded with new compressor aerodynamics and new compressor housings with a fully machined speed sensor port, compressor inlet, compressor outlet, and ported shroud area. “The whole package looks a lot nicer than it used to and yields about a 20% power increase over the original design,” said Tim Coltey, Garrett Performance Marketing Specialist. Everyone likes a little bit of shine, right? The GTX2860, 2867, 3071, 3076, 3576, 3582 all now are receiving these new upgrades.

Now for the neat freak; the new reverse rotation turbo. This counter-clockwise turbocharger platform was created mainly so that twin turbo engine builders can have two symmetrical-looking turbos in the engine compartment, resulting in more of a “clean” look. Perfect for daily drivers that want that satisfaction when they pop the hood or for the full-blown show car application. All reverse rotation turbos include the new compressor aerodynamics and are available for four Gen 2 sizes- the GTX3071, 3076, 3576, and 3582.

Garrett is also releasing a brand new turbo, the GTX3584RS, which is a mid-size turbocharger capable of producing up to a whopping 1,000 horsepower. Of course, the GTX3584RS includes all the new shiny upgrades as well as a newly-designed high flow RS turbine wheel on the backside for even better airflow than before.
