While the automotive uninitiated may look at a car as simply transportation, hardcore enthusiasts know they can be much more than just a way to get from point A to B. Sometimes, they are so ingrained into the family’s fabric, that they become a part of the family unit. Scott Frerichs’ 1970 Chevelle is one such instance where a car is much more than just a car.
That fact was driven home when he found out that thieves snuck into his Raytown, Missouri garage and stole his 1970 Chevelle, as well as two Harley Davidson motorcycles. One of the Harleys has been returned, but the other, as well as Scott’s beloved Chevelle, are still out there – somewhere.
A member of Scott’s family bought the 1970 Chevelle new. Scott bartered with the family member after doing some work on their house and received the Chevelle as payment. Scott and his son, Ryan then spent a year rebuilding the car, and the Chevelle has been a member of the family ever since. During that time, Scott, Ryan, and their 1970 Chevelle traveled across the country, following as much of Route 66 as possible, right up to the Santa Monica Pier. The car has carried the family to car shows and provided many memories.
This video from FOX4 News Kansas City shows a small-block Chevy engine and the car has bucket seats, so we’d assume would be floor-shifted. There’s not enough information to be certain if a stick or the iconic Horseshoe shifter pokes up through the console. While ANY Chevelle is an eye-catcher, this Cragar-wielding 1970 Chevelle would be hard to miss, wearing its purple paint and vinyl roof. Another identifying clue would be the shaved door handles.
No one wants to go through the heartache and turmoil of losing an automotive member of the family, but hopefully, our readers will take a minute and view this video. Then, keep your eyes out for this stolen 1970 Chevelle. We don’t know if the thieves just wanted it for a quick joyride, or if the car might be destined for an even worse fate. Either way, we hope someone sees this special Chevelle and can help the Frerichs get it back. If you spot this Chevelle, please contact the Raytown Police Department by calling (816) 737- 6020.
