NMCA: Same day coverage from Bradenton. Mark Micke ran the table in Super Street 10.5W in Jason Carter’s turbocharged ’78 Malibu at the NMCA season opener at the Bradenton Motorsports Park, qualifying No. 1 in the field and downing David DeMarco in the final round with a nice 6.84. Sean Ashe also had a dominant weekend, as he reset the Street Outlaw record with a 7.29 in qualifying and won the class on a bye after his scheduled opponent couldn’t make the bell. Kevin Parent ousted Skip Baskin for the Nostalgia Pro Street crown, 7.38 to 7.43, and Dave Hance and Billy Glidden split the Pro Street title when rain cut short their scheduled final round match. LSX Challenge: Same day coverage from Bradenton. Mike Brown charged to the LSX Drag Radial winners circle in the opening round of the 2013 LSX Challenge Series in Bradenton over the weekend, running in the 7.0’s during the course of the weekend and snagging a 7.53-second victory over Mike Meeks in the final on Sunday. Greg Delaney, in his 2010 Camaro, scored the LSX All Motor title, besting class kingpin Judson Massingill in a close 8.44 to 8.47 final round match. NHRA SPORTSNationals: Steve Szupka became just the 15th driver in history to double at an NHRA national event over the weekend as he scored in both Competition Eliminator and Stock Eliminator at the JEG’S Cajun SPORTSNationals at the No Problem Raceway Park in Belle Rose, La. Szupka beat Jim Kimbrough in the Comp final and Austin Williams in Stock. Sportsman standout Anthony Bertozzi was the victor in Super Stock, while Greg Brotherton, Ryan Herem, and Ray Dew scored in Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street, respectively. IHRA: Bruce Litton took the first Top Fuel Dragster vs. Jet Dragster match of the IHRA Nitro Jam season in his nitro-burning fueler at the Arizona Nitro Jam at the Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. Litton ran 4.93 in the first match and 5.00 in the second to put away Curt Eirdam’s jet car. Nostalgia flopper ace Jason Rupert took the Prostalgia Funny Car honors when final round opponent Steven Densham red-lighted, and Kyle Hough won out in Nostalgia Fuel Altered with a 6.82-second defeat of Mike Hilsabeck.
