Two Popular NMCA Classes Find New Homes For 2025

In the wake of Promedia’s shocking closure of the fabled National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) and National Mustang Racers Association (NMRA) event series earlier this month, the hundreds of racers that campaigned the sister series have been searching for new homes — and two of those categories this week did just that, solidifying their plans for 2025 and beyond.

The Factory Super Cars category, an NMCA class designed for heads-up competition between the factory-built Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, Chevrolet COPO Camaro, and Dodge Challenger Drag Pak, will be re-branded as the Factory Spec Shootout and race with the Modern Street HEMI Shootout series (MSHS) next season. The class will be backed by veteran factory shootout racer Geoff Turk and his Mopar-focused high-performance business, Blackbird Performance. The MSHS contests upwards of six races annually, with events up and down the East coast and extending into Michigan. With new rules that deviate from the norms set by the NHRA and NMCA, Turk and the MSHS are planning to drive down the costs of campaigning the 7-second supercharged machines in an effort to draw more of the popular factory-built machines out to compete. This initiative includes racing heads-up on a 7.70 index.

Nostalgia Super Stock (NSS), one of the longest-running and consistently well-attended NMCA categories, announced this week that it will race in 2025 as part of the Midwest-based Nostalgia Drag Racing League (NDRL) on its six-race tour that visits many of the same facilities frequented over the years by the NMCA.

“When the announcement came down a group of NSS racers talked and decided that we need to do something to fill the void. So we decided to form a group called the NSSRacingLeague. This group is designed to preserve and propel NSS racing into the future. Once the group was was formed, we needed to find a home. We wanted a points-based series that our racers would enjoy and our class would fit into, and we feel that we have found that in the NDRL,” says Doug Duell, one of the six board members of the newly-formed group.

With support from new class title sponsor A and A Transmission, Nostalgia Super Stock will race for a $10,000 points fund, with attractive purses and qualifying bonuses guaranteed at every race. The group, along with the NDRL, will also see through the continuation of several annual special events, including the Dave Schultz Memorial Race, the Victory Nostalgia Super Stock versus NDRL Allstar race, and the Dave Duell Classic.
