ORTC Redemption SGMP 2011 Same Day Coverage

Welcome to South Georgia Motorsports Park for Redemption, The Night the Lights Went out in Georgia II. Classes for this event include PTC Radial vs. the World where anything goes as long as you have a converter driven transmission and 315 Drag Radials or a True 10.5 tire. I’m very curious what kind of cars will come out the woodwork for this one. News of Wednesday’s session mentions Proline Racing having posted a video on their site with Kevin Fiscus shocking everyone with a 4.45 @ 178 MPH. The question on everyone’s mind is, can Wolfe stay on top?

Special thanks to our event coverage sponsor Mickey Thompson.  Check out their great line of wheels and tires at www.mickeythompsontires.com

Coverage Starts Thursday Afternoon!

We are here on the grounds now for Thursday’s test session under partly cloudy skies and temps in the mid 70’s. First news of the day is Kevin Fiscus tore up his carbon fiber driveshaft on his first pass this morning so is out for today’s session. A replacement is being overnighted so he should be good to go for tomorrow.

Paul Major also made the trip down to represent Team North but has yet to make a hit today.

Team Corrupt's Alex Vettros made one soft pass earlier today resulting in a 4.63 @ 165. They were gassing up and prepping for the next pass when I stopped by.

David Wolfe hurt the transmission yesterday made repairs overnight and made one pass this morning with a new converter from Pro Torque. His lone pass today was a 4.46 whih he is happy with given a new converter combo which often changes how you can bring in the power. He is in the lanes now for another try.

VP's own Jason Rueckert is on hand here again to oversee track preparation, behind him is Steve Petty, the master tuner from Proline Racing.

Eric Dillard is on radials again for this event and put up a 4.74, right behind him was Tony Ridenour matching the ET but had to pedal the car to keep the front down. And ye he is running the imfamous "Pecker extender".

Tommy Brewer and Brady McNew are here as well sporting frash paint and back to rocking the Procharged combo after running a high helix blower engine here last year.

Wehaven't herd much from Steve jackson and the Killin Time Racing crew during the off season but he is here today and sporting zoomies. He was one of those having trouble hooking when I got here earlier.

Scotty Gaudagno made a short pass in his nitrous sniffing OL10.5 Camaro running in the 4.70's @ 130.

Jeff Kyle is here in the car formerly owned by Wes Wittle, October's winning X 275 car, he ran a 5.00 so far today.

Francis Johnson made some changes and repairs to his record setting Firebird in the off season. The rear housing was twisted badly and repaired and the factory front control arm mounts were found to have pushed upward into the car. They were fixed and boxed in with added cage support to try and prevent this happening again. They also relocated the springs back onto the shocks to more easily allow adjustments to the ride height. Once the car is dialed back in the new engine will go in which will have more power and better parts inside.

Micheal Wacaser made the trip down from Wisconson to run Radial vs the World and hit the wal just minuites ago. he is out of the car but did suffer some burns after hitting both walls in the resulting fire. EMS is currently on the way to transport him to the hospital for treatment.

Nothing like some low 4.40’s in the heat of the day.  Looks like Kevin Fiscus was able to get a driveshaft today after all and put down a 4.42 @ 175.  Wolfe was right behind him with a 4.41 at a stellar 181 MPH.

Chad Opaleski is back with his 66 Chevelle in the No Boost class sporting a fresh paint job. He drove left and had to lift after getting out of the groove.

Steve Morris made the trip out sporting a fresh woo grain wrap after brushing the wall at Orlando last October. He spun the tires on his first hit of the day.

Ladies and gentleman the race to be the first radial car in the 4.30's is over and congrats are in order for Kevin Fiscus and Proline Racing. Kevin unleashed the pass just a few minuites ago running a 4.397 @ 179.28.

Andy Manson hails from Virginia and ran localy at Budds Creek and MIR last year. He managed a 5.17 @ 143 in his first trip to SGMP.

Alex Vettros ran a 4.64 today in his own car, and is also driving Paul Majors Corvette at least for today.

Brad Bonnette owns this sweet Mustang. It's got a 610 cubic inch engine with twin GT47 88's. The BTR Racing car has been 4.59 and also is on radials for the first time here today.

This 68 Ford Falcon belongs to Jason Wade who normally run TT5 out of Texas. He bolted on some radials for the first time today for this event. The car has twin 91 MM turbos for the power adder.

David Wolke's 4.38 ET slip.

This is a photo of Wolfes race pak log, clearly showing tire shake and where he pedaled the car and a loss of boost and acceleration.

Just a quick update before I head to the pits. David Wolfe bettered Fiscus' ET with a 4.38 @ 180.

Steve Hopkins and crew were thrashing hard core to get here and Steve is sleep deprived. When changing the tune up earlier he n=made a mistake in setting the timing in the MSD resulting in not enough pulled out and a host of burnt plugs. A compression test was run on all cylinders showing reduced cranking compression. They will run it anyway if they feel it's isnt hurt to badly.

Kevin Fiscus' timeslip.

Certainly not to be outdone Fiscus laid down a, get ready for this, 4.33 @ 180. Really folks this is just getting nuts. A big shout out to Pro Torque Converters as both Wolfe and Fiscus are running Joe's equipment this weekend.

Daniel Pharris lost a trans cooler line earlier today and spent the rest of it flushing the lines, tearing the trans apart and cleaning it out and repairing the broken line. After all that he got pushed back on the line on his final attempt of the day.

Jason Lee is down south for a three race swing starting this weekend. next for him is the NMRA, then NMCA at Bradenton. He ran a 4.93, then a 4.94 today and is happy with that performance. PTP Partner Patrick Barnhill puts him in the beams

A nice 4.80 @ 150 for Chad Henderson is his best to date on two systems. Here tuner and engine builder Monte Smith lines him up straight.

Stevie Fast would the first procharged carin the .40's this afternoon with a 4.48.

Night Pit Notes

DeWayne Mills hails from Oklahoma and his Camaro runs a Stan Williams 600 cubic inch big block Chevy with an F3-R 139 Procharger. Their best time today was a 4.61. The current rules here allow this combo to be 3200 pounds but this all steel ride weighs in at 3300 with driver. They are running the Radial vs the World class and is yet another car testing out radials today.

Rich Bruder are from Eddison New Jersey and run X275 up north at MIR, Cecil and Atco. This is their first trip down south but had no luck getting down the track today. The SBF 400 is topped with Victor heads done by Dave Jack and force fed by an F1-R Prochgarger with chassis work by Crazy Don.

Team Corrupt was making a gear change in Vettros' Mustang, swapping to a 3.57 for the short track as the car had been geared for 1/4 mile.

Scotty G ripped off a 4.51 @ 172.66 MPH blast today and now holds the TT5 record, improving from the previous 4.53 record by Eric Dillard.

Brandon Dominy runs Outlaw 10.5 out of Texas with this Mustang with a Ford Hemi on nitrous. They were pulling the engine to check for a blown head gasket on the drivers side.

Amanda Longs car had troubles with the transmission after running in the 4.60's today. Here they are pulling it out for repairs.

Rick Wetherby was tearing the head of his car as well to repair a blown head gasket. This is another OL 10.5 car on TT5's for the first time and with a new engine combo, a 572 BBC with twin Pro Mod 91MM turbos.

Once it was apart it was apparent the damage was a little more than just the gasket, ending their weekend.

Gotta thank Brandon and crew for the awesome food.

There is always a last shot of the night and tonights goes out to Chris Tedeschi. The first racer in the "line" after the gates close for the night. Tedeschi runs drag radial and is fresh off a runner up at Sunshine Dragstrips Heads Up Madness
