Shakedown Nationals Same Day Coverage From Englishtown

SELECT COVERAGE BY DAY:

The Shakedown Nationals, the brainchild of David Hance of New York Motorsports and one of doorslammer drag racing’s preeminent events, returns to historic Raceway Park in Englishtown for the 10th year, and once again, some of the heaviest hitters in the sport are expected to to be on hand to battle it out. The cool fall air in New Jersey, combined with the bite in the Old Bridge racing surface, makes for record-setting performances year and in and year out at the now world famous Shakedown, and along with some stout competition, the numbers could be jaw-dropping.

Special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels. For all of your racing and street/strip tire and wheel needs, look no further than Mickey Thompson!

Tim Lynch checks the tire pressure. Lynch wishes for a shot at the track today, but Outlaw 10.5 will get 3 runs Saturday.

The pits are packed and many cars are still unloading. Cloudy skies are greating racers here at Etown, with overcast conditions will produce cool temps and likely record runs throughout the weekend.

Steve Woolley readies his 66 Nova after MIR testing. He reports having lots of work to be ready for this weekend. Woolley is running Heavy Street and has his father helping tune the car.

Rich Bruder's x275 Mustang sits ready to race. When I stopped by, the car was sitting ready to race. Look for big things today from the Bruder's.

Paul Major on the right is at Shakedown with a new turbo configuration, with the angled. Here he takes time to talk with fellow Shakedown racers. Major was just getting the car to idle this morning in the Etown pits, but is confident that once the combo is sorted out, it will be stout.

Here's a peak at Major's new engine combo from Joe Newsham at J& E that will be assaulting the Outlaw Drag Radial class records if all works.

Mike Maggio is in the house at Shakedown as he made the haul to the East Coast. Scott Oksas also has his turbo powered Mustang from the west, splitting gas expenses for the trip. Maggio tested Wednesday and made 5 runs with a best of 5.80/251. Mike has 2 motors, 3 tranny's, a spare set of heads and lots of other spares, so when he puts the steam to the Camaro Saturday, he has the parts if needed to repair the car.

Andrew DeMarco made the switch to ProCharger as his turbo combo had too many variables. While only making one test pass to half track with the ProCharger, he's hoping for 4.50s out of the 438 Petty-tuned 3000 lbs Mustang. Andrew is from Boston, MA and running Limited Street.

Wheelie of the day from Shakedown belongs to Angel Muniz from New Garden, NY in his 93 Mustang.

And he stuck the landing, HARD!

Tom Haase has one of most unique 8.50 Index cars on the propery, running a full size 67 Impala. He ran too quick with an 8.454 and sits outside the 32 car field. The bump in 8.50 is 8.703 after 2 sessions.

Rich Bruder has his game face on during X275 action Friday. Rich was 4th best at 4.91/152.21 after 2 hits Friday.
Frank Soldridge launches his 2004 Mustang to the #1 spot in Limited Street. He has almost a tenth of a second on the LS field.

The scoreboard says it all- Frank Soldridge sits #1 at 4.279/ 185.13. Kevin Fiscus has more MPH at 186.54, but even at the #2 spot is over a tenth behind. Look for Fiscus to challenge for the top spot Saturday.

X275 racer David Valora waits his turn at the Etown 1320 during Friday night qualifying. Valora wound up #3 at 4.741/152.61 with at least one shot Saturday to improve, and if time permits possibly a second Saturday run.

8.50 Index racers are under the famous Raceway Park tower as they prepare for their qualifying run Friday at the Shakedown.

ROb Corujo sits #11 after 2 sessions in X275 at 5.271. He'll have to step up if he wants to stay in the 16 car field as the competition will tighten up the 5.623 bump for the 16 car field.

Paul Major had a big fire at the end of Friday’s action. He lost control and hit the wall backwards. Once he came to a stop this fire ensued. It’s doubtful he’ll be able to continue to race this weekend.

Kyle Buonocore stood his X275 Mustang on one tire, landed hard, and claimed the #9 spot for the class after 2 runs Friday. The Middlesex, NJ driver was lucky to land shiny-side up after getting so much air under the car at 200 feet.

Track manager and NHRA star Eddie Krawiec and starter Alan Brenner clean the track after a leak on the line.
