J.R. Gray Notches Another NHRA Pro Mod Victory At Virginia

J.R. Gray capped off a dominant stretch in the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series on Sunday by earning his third victory in the past four races at Virginia Motorsports Park. Gray defeated number one qualifier Dmitry Samorukov in the final round to win the sixth race of the 2025 Pro Mod season at the American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals.

Driving his Al-Anabi Performance Camaro, Gray posted a winning run of 5.787 seconds at 251.49 mph to secure his third win of the season and the fourth of his career. The victory also marked his fourth consecutive final-round appearance, underlining a strong and consistent 2025 campaign as the regular season concluded.

Samorukov’s promising weekend ended in disappointment in the final round after he lost control of his car shortly after launch. His Camaro struck the left guardwall, crossed the center line, and made contact with the right guardwall before coming to a stop. Samorukov exited the car under his own power and was evaluated and released by NHRA medical personnel on-site.

Gray, who qualified second, powered past Doug Winters, Derek Menholt, and Sidnei Frigo to reach the championship round. Following the victory, Gray reflected on his team’s hard work and preparation that has kept them at the forefront all season.

“I just believe everybody has to catch up,” Gray said. “We’re putting time in day in and day out, and there’s always somebody working on these cars. This is four finals in a row for me, and we’ve been in every final round as a team this year, so we’re really ready.”

Samorukov delivered a strong performance prior to the final, qualifying number one with a 5.764-second pass at 249.39 mph and defeating former world champions Mike Castellana and Mike Janis, as well as Stan Shelton, to reach his second career final round.

With the regular season complete, the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series now shifts to the Road to the Championship playoffs. Points will reset as Gray takes the lead into the final four-race stretch, which begins at the prestigious 71st annual Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals, August 27–September 1, at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
