J.R. Gray secured his second win of the 2025 season in the Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series on Sunday, defeating Al-Anabi Performance teammate Mike Stavrinos in a close final round at the 24th annual Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.
The Bristol event marked the fifth of 10 scheduled races in this year’s NHRA Pro Mod season. Gray posted the quickest pass of Sunday’s eliminations in the championship round, running 5.762 seconds at 250.46 mph to narrowly edge out Stavrinos in an exciting side-by-side race following a lengthy rain delay. The victory was Gray’s third career win in NHRA Pro Mod competition.
Gray’s route to the final included wins over Chip King, two-time world champion Stevie Jackson, and veteran Rickie Smith before meeting his teammate in the deciding matchup. With the win, Gray moved into the Pro Mod points lead at the season’s halfway mark.
“Man, this is all about redemption,” Gray said. “The whole crew has been putting in the hours and they’ve been making it happen.”
Stavrinos, who reached his third final round of the year, defeated Derek Menholt, Alex Laughlin, and Billy Banaka on his way to the runner-up finish. He now holds second place in the points standings as the Pro Mod series prepares for its next event.
The Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series will resume June 20-22 with the fifth annual American Rebel Light Virginia NHRA Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park in Richmond, Virginia.
