The NHRA and its loyal Indianapolis fans simply can’t buy a break. Record-high temperatures last year turned to a windy and bone-chilling race day, and this year, the remnants of Hurricane Isaac have wreaked havoc on the Lucas Oil Raceway. Just after Super Stock was called to the lanes for its first round of eliminations this morning, the rains came and as of 11:30 a.m. EST, we’re still under a delay as the wet stuff continues to come down. It’s not a downpour, but nevertheless, we’re in wait-and-see mode. Depending on your chosen source of news and weather, the forecast today calls for anywhere from a 70 to 100 percent chance of rain through later this evening.
We’re done for today. The Traxxas Nitro Shootout for Funny Cars has been postponed to a later date and the professional fields are set. Weather pending, eliminations will begin as scheduled at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning. Sportsman racing will begin bright and early and will assuredly run well into the evening and possibly on Tuesday in order to get the U.S. Nationals in the books.
