If you’ve ever wanted to have your very own, eighth-mile dragstrip in a prime location, now’s your chance. Dunn Benson Dragstrip, in Benson, North Carolina, will be up for auction on August 14, 2013. The IHRA-sanctioned, all-concrete facility was first opened in 1957 by Dallas Parker and has recently been operated by Roger and Brian Williams. The track has seen a number of upgrades over the last several years, including a complete grinding and new audio system during the 2011 season and has hosted numerous Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod races, as the eighth-mile Pro Mod scene is quite large in the Carolinas.
What do you get with your purchase? A dragstrip that’s located just four miles from I-95, the major thoroughfare through the area, mowers, trucks, a sweeper, and more. The property appears to be in excellent shape. Dunn-Benson has a healthy bracket program in addition to the Extreme Outlaw Pro Mods, Outlaw 275 Drag Radial, Real Street 275 Drag Radial, and 4.90 Extreme competitors that are on the schedule.
As Billy Mays used to say, “But wait, there’s more!” The facility also has a mud track, regular Thursday test-and-tune nights, and is part of the Southern Bracket Series. Of course, we’re sure the same old adage that persists throughout drag racing holds true; “If you want to make a small fortune in drag racing, start with a large one!”
From what we can see, it’s a well-kept track with what seems to have a lot of potential, and according to the auctioneer, there are also three houses on the property that will be offered separately. Maybe you want to live on the property and have a dragstrip in the backyard? The auction is coming soon, so line up those pennies and get ready to be a part of the bidding.
