Pushing a front-wheel-drive Honda Civic deep into the seven-second zone requires immense power and a driveline that can handle it reliably. Competition Clutch and racer Ricky Silva proved they had the right combination in 2024, and the two announced they will continue their partnership for the 2025 drag racing season.
Competition Clutch remains a primary brand supporting Silva’s well-known 1997 Honda Civic, a top contender in the Sport FWD and Super Street categories.
Their partnership proved fruitful last season when Silva and his CLM Motorsports team achieved a major performance breakthrough, recording their first seven-second quarter-mile elapsed time – a significant benchmark in sport compact drag racing – utilizing Competition Clutch components.
Silva and his team used the off-season to prepare for an even stronger 2025 campaign, making a strategic switch to run the potent Civic on methanol. Silva reported that early preseason test sessions with the new methanol combination showed “very promising” performance potential. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Competition Clutch for 2025,” Silva said.
“Their support and products have been instrumental to our success. It’s great working with a company that we can rely on for our customer builds at CLM Motorsports.”
Competition Clutch, a long-standing manufacturer in the sport compact scene now operating under the Wharton Automotive Group, views the partnership as mutually beneficial. “Competition Clutch continues to be one of the top manufacturers in sport compact drag racing,” stated Krista Baldwin, Director of Marketing.
“We love working with Ricky and CLM Motorsports for their contribution to the sport and other competitors.” She emphasized their shared goal: providing “a reliable, economically priced clutch and driveline products for any racer from a weekend warrior to a seven-second Honda Civic.”
The company continues developing single, twin, and triple disc clutch systems for various applications. Fans eager to see the methanol-powered Civic in action won’t have to wait long. Ricky Silva plans to kick off his 2025 season at the major HDay competition scheduled for this upcoming weekend. This continued collaboration between a championship-caliber racer and a dedicated clutch manufacturer underscores the synergy needed to compete at the highest levels of import drag racing, pushing boundaries year after year.
