While visiting relatives in Lexington, Kentucky, and being a huge drag racing fan, I decided to take a ride to what seemed like the closest Drag strip, Mountain Park Dragway in Clay City. This facility is not far off of the Mountain Parkway and offers a great scenic retreat. It is unique because it is an 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile track. In testing, when the vehicles reaches the 1/8 mile, the E.T. pops up on the scoreboards and when they reach the 1/4 mile finish line, it changes to the 1/4 mile E.T.
The racing surface goes up hill in the shutdown area and the fuel station is also on a hill. They offer plenty of pit parking, good food and reasonable pricing. Mt. Park Dragway was hosting an IHRA Summit Racing Equipment Pro AM Tour the weekend that we visited and there were racers from as far as Canada and Michigan in attendance. The IHRA Division 3 North Stars folks provided a great pit barbeque cookout on Thursday night that was open to all racers and spectators. If your ever in the area, stop by to catch some great racing and some amazing views.
