Leroy The Savage: The First GM Stick Shift Car In The 7’s

The automotive industry has always been full of trends and this is one of the things that makes it unique. These trends are either well received or they’re not.

Enter Garret Mitchell’s infamous C5 Corvette named Leroy the Savage. Some people love it…some people love to hate it. No matter which side of the fence you’re on, it’s hard to argue that the stripped-down C5 is not a force to be reckoned with.

In a quest to go faster than thought possible, Garret Mitchell, known to many as Cleetus McFarland, successfully piloted the C5 ‘Vette into the record books this week. With the aerodynamics of a lego car assembled by a three year-old, Garret still managed to pop off an incredible elapsed time of 7.82 at 176 mph at Florida’s Bradenton Motorsports Park. According to Garret, this makes Leroy the Savage the first stick shift GM car in the 7’s. The car had a blistering 1/8-mile time, as well, laying down an impressive 5.103 at 142.99 mph. With a 60-foot time of 1.263, there’s no doubt that the RPM Transmission T-56 was doing some major work on this pass. The only new modification we could spot on the car was the new Frankenstein Engine Dynamics intake connected to a couple of Precision Turbos with carbon-fiber volutes.

This is not the first record that Garret has set this month; last week he was able to set the N/A sixth-gen Camaro record driving Texas Speed’s Camaro. One thing is certain, Garrett can definitely drive the wheels off anything that has a standard transmission.

While this pass is the first GM stick shift in the sevens, it also makes Leroy the first stick-shifted Corvette in the sevens. The haters are likely to line up in rows on the internet to post their discontent with what “use to be” a C5 Corvette. Either way, records are meant to be broken and that’s exactly what Garrett has done. Congratulations to to Garret and his crew on their new record.
