Ford has come up with a lot of great marketing names over the years. Obviously Mustang stands out as the most memorable, but the Boss, GT500, and Cobra Jet names still hold a lot of weight with the car-buying public. Ford has revived all three names in the last few years, but the most limited of all these models remains the race-only Cobra Jet.
Ford built just 50 2013 Cobra Jets, all of which quickly sold out. But today Ford Racing announced that they would also sell a limited number of the naturally-aspirated and supercharged 5.0 engines found in the new Cobra Jet dragsters.
But like the whole car, sales of these crate engines will be limited. Ford didn’t put an exact number on it, but don’t expect a whole lot of these crazy crate engines to leave the factory. Both engines use a 5.0 liter all-aluminum engine block and sport a bevy of improved parts, from Boss 302 CNC ported cylinder heads to forged H-beam connecting rods.
The naturally aspirated engine will have an MSRP of $17,495, while the supercharged version of the engine will set you back $24,995. It’ll be interesting to see where these monster motors end up. What kind of Ford product would you stuff these crate engines into?
