Mack Reeves Makes His Drag Pack Challenger Stand Out

Even though the Drag Pack Challenger is a rare sight compared to say.. an early 90’s Fox Body on the 1320, we’ve seen the wrenches turning on a bunch of them, seeing what each and every race team’s interpretation on the best overall Drag Pack Challenger is, performance-wise and in the cosmetic department. We’ve certainly seen some stellar examples, but when Mack Reeves got his hands on his own Challenger (Drag Pack #43) he wanted to do what he could to make it stand out from the others, so he got in touch with Chris Cruz Artistry for a killer paint job.

While Chris Cruz’s paint-job is what really drew me into this modern Mopar, there’s a whole lot more to this ride, as depicted on Moparts.

Hitting the ground running with Chrysler’s biggest and baddest production motor available today, the 6.1L HEMI stays fairly stock-appearing on the outside at first glance, but as with all teams, they’re doing what little they can on the inside within NHRA AS/A’s tight rule package. When your rule-strapped in the motor department, you’ve got to look elsewhere for any bit of help you can get on hustling down the 1/4 mile – underneath this beauty’s rear clip is a Mopar 8 3/4″ rear end stuffed with Mark Williams Hi-Torque axles. Helping keep the car steady on launch is Afco shocks out back and Afco coil-overs in the front-end.

Keeping consistency in mind, Reeves opted for an automatic trans. in the car. As the build wraps up, Reeves is hoping he’ll have enough time to get this Challenger onto the dyno rollers and also get some crucial testing data in soon, before making an attempt to get the car ready and out for the last Division 2 race of the year in October, before giving the competition a run for their money in 2011.
