Tasca Ford Keeps Cobra Jet Tradition Alive

[1]

While nephew Bob Tasca III may have the fastest Mustang in the family, Carl Tasca Sr. has been busy this year tearing up the tracks around the Northeast in his 2008 and 2010 Mustang Cobra Jet. With the late Bob Tasca Sr. being credited as the father of the original 1968 Cobra Jet, its great to see the family carry on the tradition of the cars at the drag strip. As a tribute to Bob Sr, the 2008 car features graphics from the original race team complete with Bill Lawton’s name on the door. Bill Lawton was the original “hotshoe” at Tasca Ford  in the 1960’s and added to the legend of the Cobra Jet in addition to other famous racers like Gas Rhonda, Al Joniec and Hubert Platt.

While Carl and the Tasca team have never entered the Cobra Jets in NHRA or IHRA competition, they have made every effort to make their cars some of the fastest Cobra Jets in the country.  Recently, the Tasca crew posted a YouTube video of the cars testing at New England Dragway and from the sound of the car, Carl is pretty good with a Liberty transmission. We’ve heard that the 2010 Cobra Jet has run into the eight second zone and the team is pushing for more power and performance. If the 777 shoe polish number on the window is any indication of goals for the car, a seven second run is what the Tasca team is shooting for.

If you want to check out the Cobra Jet in person, the car will be on display at the upcoming Tasca Ford Mustang Event on September 11, 2010 at the Tasca Ford dealership in Cranston, Rhode Island. In its 13th year, the annual event features an all Ford Car show and  John Force  will be on hand signing autographs. For more information on the event visit www.tascamodshop.com [2].
