eBay Find: ’60 Pontiac Catalina Junior Stocker Survivor

This little gem of an eBay find has already crossed the auction blocks, but it’s rare you see a car this old in this great of shape being sold.

This 1960 Pontiac Catalina 2 door hardtop Stocker/Junior Stocker is said to have spent the last forty years stored in a garage, having only spent the last six months out in the elements on blocks. The car sports a 389-inch powerplant under the hood, with .030 over, and sports a set of Pontiac cylinder heads, a dual four-barrel manifold with two Carter AFB carburetors, an Isky No. 7 Tri-power camshaft, a ground stock crankshaft, a 10-quart oil pan with an extended pickup, and a set of Hooker headers.

Other original components include a ’60 Pontiac Turbo-Hydro transmission, a reworked torque converter, pressure valves and clutches, a 4.11 posi rear housing with towing hubs, and welded traction bars.

The finish is a silver metalflake paint with a clear lacquer overcoat and features all of the original lettering, including the “Road Runner” namesake. Considering the length of time it’s been sitting, the car looks to be in particularly great shape both inside and out, and when and if someone chooses to purchase it, they’ll have a pretty solid starting point for a restoration.

Not a lot of history seems to surround this particular car nor it’s driver/owner J. Eleazer,  but it’s said to have competed at East Coast strips like Englishtown, Flemington Speedway, and Island Speedway in New Jersey, along with Islip Speedway, Westhampton Dragstrip, New York National Speedway, Dover Dragstrip, and Lebanon Valley in New York during its time.

On August 4, 1971, Eleazer set the UHRA national record in GA-1 with a 13.40 elapsed time.

As one can visibly tell by the number of stickers adorning the windows, this car did a lot of racing during it’s years, including NHRA, AHRA, UHRA, and others.

Evidently someone saw value and potential in the “Road Runner,” as the winning bid for the auction that concluded last Friday was a hefty $30,000.
