The True Street Drag Racing Series, a Midwest-based heads up organization that catered to the hardcore racer in a region lacking that style of racing, announced this week that effectively immediately, it would be closing its operations and cancelling all future schedule events for the 2010 season. The series held events at many popular facilities, including Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, WI, Cordova Dragway in Cordova, IL, and Cedar Falls Raceway in Cedar Falls, IA. Classes that were being contested this season included Outlaw 10.5, Nostalgia Pro Street, Drag Radial, Hot Street, and several other categories for both two and four-wheeled participants.
Many of the racers and machines that DRAGZINE has featured in recent months were preparing for competition in the rapidly expanding and growing series, and this news is certainly a huge blow to those invested in the organization; leaving them with less options for places to race in an region largely known for bracket racing. One such existing series – the Gamblers Drag Racing Association – has already reached out to the community and extended an invitation to the Midwest racers looking for a place to race for the balance of the season.
Official statement from Becky Wardlow of the True Street Drag Racing Series:
True Street Drag Racing, Inc. has ceased operations effective today, Monday, July 26, 2010. We thank all the racers, tracks and sponsors who supported the series the past two years. Unfortunately, there are many reasons why True Street is closing it’s doors. If you would like to discuss the reason(s) with me feel free to contact me directly.
